ADVANCE FOR AUGUST 2010

FROM THE PEN OF THE DOM

We are happy to report on the West Virginia mission trip which took place July 10-16, 2010. What a fantastic time we had while serving the Lord with the folks in the Coalfields Association of Southern Baptist! The office is located in Logan, West Virginia but the association is spread out over five counties with parts of two other counties. The population in the area just mentioned is approximately 225,000 people. A construction crew of 12 people worked on the Big Spring Church in Mallory, a town near Man, West Virginia. That team of able and willing workers were led by Joe Seaton in the transformation of a building near the church to an apartment where the pastor and family can live. This was a much needed ministry and is being carried on by other mission teams that come to the area. We were also blessed to have five teams of VBS workers who did Vacation Bible Schools in several different locations with the results that eight people made profession of faith in Jesus Christ plus, one surrendered to missions! We enrolled 181 and had an average daily attendance of around 150. Our thanks go out to all the churches, especially the ones who loaned us church vans and other favors so this trip could become a reality. Weakley County Baptists were never better represented than this crew of 58 people who gave a week of their lives in special services for the Lord. Most of all, thanks for the prayers that went up in
our behalf. We are excited about the potential for a new church plant in the Harts area of West Virginia. Weakley County’s own Kevin and Angie Mullins live there now with their four children. They need our prayers and financial support without
which the church plant will not succeed. I am grateful for the response from churches to the request for special financial support for this effort. I feel that many more will respond in some way to the call to help this new beginning!

The next associational event will be the Sunday School University to be held at FBC Paris on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 beginning at 6:30 P.M. There will be a complimentary (free) meal beginning at 5:15 P.M. to feed those who need to come straight from work to this Sunday School Clinic. However, we need to know how many will come to the meal. So, if your Sunday School faculty will come to the meal, please call our office and let us know by Friday, August 13th so we will know
for how many to prepare. All pastors and Sunday School Directors have received lots of information about this event. We hope every church will encourage their S/S faculty to attend, at least the meeting, and maybe for the meal as well. This will help your Sunday School teachers and attendance a lot.

We are also anticipating a large crowd at our annual “Christmas in August” service to be held at FBC Gleason on
Monday, August 23, 2010. Pictures will be shown of our W.V. mission trip at this meeting and an offering will be received
for the P.A.C.E. fund. This offering is the one offering for the year that helps to replenish our mission funds for pioneer
missions and mission trips to W.V. and Honduras. Some churches give each month while others wait until August and give a larger, lump-sum amount to aid in the financial side of our missionary work. However it is done, I trust that each church will want to have a part in something that will promote the winning of souls and building of the Kingdom of God around the world!

See you in church.

Bro. Wayne

WCBA PASTORS’ CONFERENCE

God has richly blessed our association with a great group of pastors! On Monday morning we assemble at 10:00 A.M. for fellowship, preaching, testifying, and praying. Most of our pastors who come say they are lifted up and encouraged spiritually by attending this weekly gathering of fellow preachers and ministers. Bi-Vocational pastors are encouraged to come when it fits their schedule. They probably may not be able to come every week because of work, but sometimes they may be off work or on vacation, and when they are they would be blessed, indeed, to meet here at the mission center. Pastors and ministers love one another in Weakley County Baptist Association! We are so blessed!

NEED HELP?

THE ASSOCIATION HAS GREAT CHRISTIAN COUNSELING!

On Wednesday afternoons 1:00-4:00 P.M. and Thursdays mornings 9:00 A.M.-12:00 Noon, Mrs. Weslee Hill , a successful wife and mother of two children, is here in the WCBA office with help for anger management, alcohol and drug abuse, attention deficit disorder, depression, grief or marriage conflict, etc. . . For an appointment call 364-3739.

There is a pre-registration form given there so that you will not have to wait to fill that form out when you come for your first appointment. Confidentiality and Informed Consent:

I acknowledge that I have been informed of Weslee Hill’s credentials and issues pertaining to confidentiality. Mrs. Hill has a Masters Degree from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, Charlotte, North Carolina in Christian Counseling and is pursuing licensure in Tennessee. Your time with Mrs. Hill is protected by confidentiality. This means that Mrs. Hill will not discuss the details of your case or your presence with anyone without your expressed written consent. The limits to confidentiality include suspected abuse of a child or a life threatening situation (to yourself or others). In rare occasions, a judge may court order the disclosure of confidential information. Your signature expresses that you understand the above information.

Special Issues in Working With Children

Confidentiality
With older children (teens) Weslee would prefer to have conversations as confidential as it would be with a legal adult. The child and parents will have a clear understanding that anything that is life threatening will be dealt with safely and recommendations will be made to the parents about dealing with the child in a way that protects confidential conversations with the child and Weslee. With younger children, Weslee will not mention anything about confidentiality to the child, but the family’s confidentiality will be protected.

Court Appearances and Recommendations

In most cases with children, there is not a need to appear in court. However, in some cases, (such as child custody) it needs to be extremely clear that it causes risk to the therapist/client rapport if reports are given to the courts with regard to any confidential conversations between the therapist and the child. If such information is needed, Weslee will be glad to refer to a competent child psychologist or counselor for evaluation purposes, but would choose to remain focused on counseling the child through the issues at hand. Therefore, signing this agreement waives your right to request that Mrs. Hill offer any information to the courts.

Financial Agreement

Counseling is a service that is the product of education, experience and ongoing professional training. Mrs. Hill continues to
invest in this service through participating in the development of her craft. The hourly rate charged is comparable other therapists with similar or fewer credentials as Mrs. Hill. If the hourly rates are not affordable, Mrs. Hill is committed to working out a plan that will be affordable to you. In some cases accessing assistance from your church may be possible.

Payment

Please offer payment at the beginning of each session. Checks are made payable to Weakley County Baptist Association.

Insurance

Since Mrs. Hill is working towards TN licensing, she is not currently covered by insurance and by signing this agreement, you are committing to pay any expenses not covered by insurance.

A missed appointment is a loss to everyone. Certainly, people make mistakes in scheduling and frankly, forget appointments at times. However, Mrs. Hill has reserved this time just for you and may not be able to fill the appointment on short notice. Please give 24 hour notice if you are not going to be able to come to your appointment. Failure to do so will result in a $50 charge that is not covered by outside payors.
