Beech Springs was constituted as a church on the first Sunday in September 1848. At that time 17 members of the same faith and order met  and a sermon was delivered by Elder J. Glover.  The church was founded by Tilmon Johnson who came to Weakley County from Carroll County around 1846.  He donated the land on which the first building was built about a mile west of the present location.

The church belonged to the Sentinel Association until 1853 when it changed to the North Western Association and then when the Weakley County Baptist Association was organized in 1887, they were a charter member. The church has continued to flourish for over 150 years.  Many building programs, renovations, and other promotions have marked the success of the seed planted so many years ago in the Gleason community.  Thirty-eight different men have served as pastor of this church.
